Course Description

Foundations of Shared Equity Homeownership is a comprehensive introduction to the concept of shared equity homeownership, a unique housing solution that balances wealth-building opportunities for individuals with long-term affordability for communities.

In this course, you'll:

  • Work to understand shared equity homeownership and how it uses subsidy retention to create lasting affordability.
  • Explore the three primary models of shared equity homeownership: community land trusts, limited equity cooperatives, and deed-restricted housing.
  • Learn about the elements that are common to all shared equity homeownership programs, like affordable pricing and resale formulas, legal documents, and stewardship.
  • Review the partnerships and policy strategies essential for scaling shared equity homeownership programs effectively.

Equally as rigorous as our live courses, this self-paced course can be completed on your own time and at your own pace. You’ll learn by reading, watching videos, completing a course assignment, and answering knowledge check questions. Your learning will be supported by a downloadable course workbook and curated collections of resources.

We expect that it will take most people 4-6 hours to complete the course.
